AI integration advances in Irish and Sri Lankan judicial systems

Legal systems in Ireland and Sri Lanka are implementing new measures regarding artificial intelligence. In Ireland, the Presidents of the Court of Appeal and the High Court have issued Practice Directions regarding the use of generative AI in court documents. Effective September 1, 2026, these rules require solicitors, barristers, and litigants to ensure all AI-assisted materials are accurate, verified, and compliant with procedural requirements, noting that AI use does not absolve the filer of responsibility for document reliability.

In Sri Lanka, China has pledged to support the integration of AI into the nation's judicial framework. This initiative aims to modernize the legal system by accelerating case processing, reducing backlogs, and improving the accuracy of legal documentation and record-keeping. The partnership is expected to enhance court administration and transparency through technological transformation.
