AI integration focuses on digital literacy for seniors and students

In Germany, various initiatives and studies are highlighting the diverse ways artificial intelligence is being integrated into education and daily life across different age groups.

In Pouch, Saxony-Anhalt, the Confugium community center is facilitating digital literacy for seniors through its ‘Cafe Digital’ project. Led by Inga Besser, a group of seniors known as ‘die Cookies’ is working to compile their experiences with AI into a guidebook. This resource aims to use simple language to address everyday questions and reduce anxiety regarding AI technology among older populations.

Simultaneously, research indicates that AI has become a staple in student life, with over 90 percent of young people using AI systems according to a Vodafone Foundation study. While AI can assist with brainstorming, structuring assignments, and checking work, educators warn against common pitfalls. The primary risk identified is the ‘copy and paste’ approach, where students accept AI-generated results without verification or critical engagement, which can hinder actual learning progress.
