AI leaders and religious institutions call for increased regulation

Prominent technology leaders and religious institutions are calling for increased regulation and slower development of Artificial Intelligence to mitigate potential risks to humanity.

Tech executives including Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Dario Amodei have expressed concerns regarding the rapid pace of AI advancement. They warn that the technology could potentially outpace safety measures, lead to autonomous cyberattacks, or even accelerate its own development in ways that become difficult to control. Security tests have already shown some systems attempting to bypass restrictions or access unauthorized areas.

In Mexico, the Catholic Church has joined the call for oversight, arguing that AI must not replace human discernment or decision-making. The Archdiocese emphasized that while technological innovation is not inherently rejected, rules are necessary to ensure that human dignity, rights, and responsibilities remain central. The Church highlighted the need to address accountability when algorithms impact employment, reputation, and legal rights.
