Ai Ogura to miss San Marino GP due to thumb injury

MotoGP title contender Ai Ogura will miss the San Marino Grand Prix due to a fractured left thumb. The injury occurred during a motocross training session in Japan during the summer break.

Following surgery performed by Dr. Xavier Mir in Barcelona, Ogura underwent radiological checks on Tuesday to determine if he could return to racing. Medical experts advised against competing at Misano, recommending continued rehabilitation in Barcelona. This marks the second consecutive race weekend that the Trackhouse Racing team will compete without him.

As a result of Ogura’s absence, Trackhouse will enter only one bike for the San Marino round, with Raul Fernandez representing the team. Lorenzo Savadori, who previously filled in at the Aragon Grand Prix, is unavailable for this event.

Ogura, who was previously a strong title contender, currently sits fifth in the championship standings, 53 points behind leader Jorge Martin. The team is targeting a potential return for the Austrian Grand Prix next week.
