AI platforms suggest unlicensed gambling sites are legal in Netherlands

A study by XY Legal Solutions conducted between August and September 2026 found that ten major AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Meta AI, suggested unlicensed gambling sites as being legal and approved by the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA).

The research, which tested various queries regarding online casinos in the Netherlands, revealed that all ten assistants mentioned at least one unlicensed operator. In some instances, platforms like Microsoft Copilot misinterpreted unlicensed brands as legitimate, even including them in lists of legal casinos. Some assistants also provided responses that advertised bonuses or fast payouts despite the absence of proper regulatory controls.

This research follows increased scrutiny of technology companies regarding illegal gambling advertisements in the Netherlands, including legal action taken by the Dutch gambling trade association VNLOK against Meta.
