AI-powered robots showcased at European Parliament

Researchers showcased 15 advanced AI-powered robots at the European Parliament in Brussels to demonstrate the evolving capabilities of European robotics. The demonstration, organized by the euROBIN network, featured machines designed for diverse applications, including household assistance, manufacturing, and complex physical environments.

Key highlights included kitchen assistant robots capable of clearing dishes and organizing items, and the “Transformer” robot from ETH Zurich, which demonstrated mobility by switching between wheels and legs. Other displays focused on industrial scenarios, such as cable harness assembly using digital twin simulations and the robotic disassembly of electronics.

While the event highlighted significant scientific expertise, researchers noted that European funding for the sector currently lags behind competitors like China. Experts suggest that AI-driven robotics has the potential to grow into a major European industry within ten to fifteen years, potentially matching the economic scale of the current automotive or telecommunications sectors.
