AI-powered traffic cameras expand across São Paulo highways

Artificial intelligence-powered cameras are expanding across highways in São Paulo to monitor driver behavior. The technology is being deployed to identify high-risk infractions such as the use of mobile phones while driving and the failure to wear seatbelts.

On the Raposo Tavares highway (SP-270), the concessionaire Cart has installed intelligent cameras in the Presidente Prudente region. Operating between km 560 and km 572, these high-definition systems are integrated with the Military Highway Police and comply with National Traffic Council (Contran) regulations.

Additionally, the concessionaire Ecovias Raposo Castello will implement similar AI systems on the Castello Branco highway. These cameras will operate 24 hours a day, capturing images for review by the Military Highway Police, who are responsible for validating infractions and issuing fines. Previous deployments on the Rodoanel Mário Covas and Raposo Tavares highways have already recorded thousands of irregularities, primarily involving seatbelt and cellphone violations, while also assisting in accident identification.
