AI researcher Andrew Tulloch departs Meta

Prominent AI researcher Andrew Tulloch is leaving Meta less than a year after joining the company. His departure follows a period of intense competition for artificial intelligence talent, during which Meta reportedly offered Tulloch a compensation package valued at up to $1.5 billion to secure his expertise.

Tulloch, who previously worked at OpenAI and co-founded Thinking Machines Lab, has not disclosed his next destination. His exit is part of a broader trend of high-profile researchers leaving major tech firms to found startups or join competitors. Recent departures include senior researchers from Google and Anthropic, as well as other co-founders of Thinking Machines Lab, Barret Zoph and Luke Metz.

Meta has been aggressively attempting to regain its footing in the AI race, recently launching new AI agents designed to perform consumer tasks such as sending emails and shopping online.
