AI role in science and research discussed at Brussels conference

The Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research (CZELO), alongside partners from Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, co-organized a conference at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the EU regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on science, research, and innovation.

Discussions focused on the use of AI in preparing and evaluating grant applications, as well as revolutionary applications such as autonomous physical experiments. Liviu Stirbat from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation presented the RAISE (Resource for AI Science in Europe) project, which aims to automate scientific laboratories. The project has secured initial contributors including NVIDIA, Elsevier, Frontiers, Mistral, Sanofi, and Google DeepMind.

Separately, sociologist Pavel Tuček discussed the historical and sociopolitical implications of AI, noting its evolution from commercial marketing to tools used by intelligence agencies for data monitoring and surveillance.
