AI sector shifts toward infrastructure needs and security investments
The artificial intelligence sector is undergoing a transition from pure algorithmic hype to a more complex economic reality. While the initial surge in valuations was driven by semiconductor manufacturers and infrastructure providers like Nvidia, the market is becoming increasingly selective. Investors are now scrutinizing the tangible requirements of AI, including data centers, power grids, cooling systems, and the massive energy consumption expected to potentially double by 2030. Additionally, the industry is shifting from being funded solely by big tech cash flows to utilizing more sophisticated debt and leverage structures.
In the specialized field of AI security, the startup Irregular is reportedly negotiating a funding round of over $100 million, which would value the company at $1.5 billion. Led by Thrive Capital and Greenoaks, the deal follows a period of rapid growth for the company, which was founded in 2023 by Dan Lahav and Omer Nevo. Irregular provides 'red teaming' services, creating controlled environments to test advanced AI models against cyberattacks and malicious instructions. Its client base includes major players such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, as well as various governments.
