AI security priorities shift to data foundations and cyber threats in Europe

A 2026 BARC BI & Analytics Survey of European data users found that 66% rank data security and privacy as the top priority, followed by data quality management (62%), a data‑driven culture (51%) and AI governance (44%). Only 17% identified agentic AI as a key focus, indicating that robust data foundations are seen as essential for successful AI deployment.

In the DACH region, an Arctic Wolf AI & Cybersecurity Trends Report shows a parallel shift: 38% of security leaders now consider AI risks the greatest cybersecurity challenge, overtaking malware (21%). Companies are demanding controllable AI solutions, approved large language models, and human oversight, while emphasizing digital sovereignty and the value of a European‑based Security Operations Center, trusted by 82% of respondents.

Together, the findings highlight a continental move toward strengthening data quality, governance and security as a prerequisite for AI adoption, and a growing concern that AI itself is becoming the primary vector for cyber threats.
