AI shifts workplace demands toward soft skills and critical thinking

Experts suggest that while artificial intelligence is transforming the workplace, the fundamental core skills required for employment remain unchanged. During an education committee meeting, specialists noted that while AI literacy is becoming essential, soft skills such as oral communication, resilience, creative thinking, organization, and teamwork are still the primary attributes sought by employers. Rose Luckin of University College London emphasized that the core of education remains teaching children how to be “good” at learning.

In India, a study of 75 top business schools revealed a significant competency gap regarding AI skills among management graduates. While industry experts expect MBA graduates to demonstrate a competency level of 4 out of 5, graduates from these institutions averaged 3.2 out of 5. The findings, released by the Association of Indian Management Schools, Education Promotion Society for India, and the Indian Management Conclave, highlight an urgent need for curricula to evolve. As generative AI automates routine analytical tasks, there is an increasing demand for graduates to possess high-level capabilities in critical thinking, judgment, leadership, and relationship management alongside technical AI fluency.
