AI short films surge in popularity across social media platforms

The rapid rise of AI-generated short films is reshaping digital entertainment, particularly on mobile platforms. Data from Sensor Tower indicates a massive surge in this content; in China alone, over 221,900 new AI short films appeared on social media platforms during the first half of 2026.

In Vietnam, short-form video applications have surpassed OTT services in download numbers since the fourth quarter of 2025. These videos, often distributed via TikTok, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts, are designed for quick consumption during brief breaks.

However, the trend raises concerns regarding content quality and safety. To maximize viewer retention, many productions rely on sensationalist themes such as violence, infidelity, or extreme power struggles. Because social media algorithms recommend similar content based on viewing duration, there is a risk of users being continuously exposed to repetitive or sensitive motifs.
