AI skills gap emerges as new digital divide

The nature of the digital divide is shifting from physical access to a gap in critical thinking and practical skills regarding generative artificial intelligence. While corporate authorization of AI tools grew by 50% in a single year—rising from under 40% to approximately 60% of the workforce according to Deloitte’s ‘The State of AI in the Enterprise 2026’ report—actual integration remains low. Less than 60% of employees with official access incorporate these programs into their daily workflows.

Experts suggest that bridging this gap requires more than technological distribution; it necessitates strategic implementation and regulatory frameworks to ensure economic justice and human rights. Similarly, in the field of auditing, the focus is shifting from mere technological adoption to the management of trust and risk. While AI and automation can expand the scope of data analysis, the value of modern auditing lies in professional judgment, the ability to interpret complex data, and ensuring the quality and context of evidence rather than simply increasing data volume.
