AI smart glasses shipments hit record 4.2 million units in H1 2026
The global market for AI-powered smart glasses experienced explosive growth in the first half of 2026, with shipments reaching a record 4.2 million units. According to data from Omdia, shipments increased by 127% on an annual basis, driven by Meta’s dominance and the entry of new manufacturers, particularly from China.
Meta currently controls over 81% of the global market, having shipped 3.4 million units. The company’s strategy focuses on integrating AI services, hands-free photo and video capture, and open-ear audio into everyday eyewear frames, often through collaborations like its partnership with Ray-Ban.
While Meta leads, other manufacturers are seeking to differentiate themselves. Even Realities rose to the second position in the first half of 2026 with 102,000 shipments, representing a 2.4% market share. Meanwhile, a competitive race is developing between tech giants Meta and Google, as both companies aim to transition smart glasses from niche enthusiast gadgets to essential computing assistants that integrate seamlessly into daily life without the need for constant screen interaction.
