AI Startup Rasa Legal Helps Noella Sudbury Speed Up Criminal Record Expungement
Former Utah public defender Noella Sudbury founded Rasa Legal to use artificial intelligence for criminal‑record expungement. The app can determine a person’s eligibility for sealing or expunging a record in about three minutes, cutting the time lawyers previously spent on each case from an hour to a few minutes.
Since 2018 Sudbury has run expungement clinics in Salt Lake County, where hundreds of people with past drug or retail‑theft arrests have struggled to find housing and employment because of background checks. By digitising the paperwork and applying AI, Rasa Legal aims to help tens of thousands clear their records faster, improving their chances of securing jobs and housing.
