AI subscription value: Claude offers higher API equivalent than OpenAI
A recent analysis by SemiAnalysis indicates that Anthropic’s Claude subscription plans offer significantly higher value for mid-tier model use cases compared to OpenAI. When converted to API equivalent value, Claude’s subscription provides approximately five times the value of OpenAI’s equivalent pricing for mid-tier models like Claude Opus 5.5 versus GPT-6.1 Sol.
While flagship models show closer parity in usage limits, the study notes that Claude subscriptions consume a high proportion of Anthropic’s resources, accounting for 42% of inference compute despite contributing only 10% of revenue. Conversely, OpenAI has recently adjusted limits on its $200 plan, which some analysts suggest effectively halves its practical value.
In the developer sector, AiiOnly, a platform under VeryCloud, is targeting the growing demand for aggregated AI subscriptions. Their Token Plan offers a unified interface for multiple models, including DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, and MiniMax. The service aims to reduce the hidden costs of managing multiple accounts and billing cycles by providing a tiered credit-based system compatible with OpenAI standard interfaces.
