AI Summit Styria explores artificial intelligence applications

The inaugural AI Summit Styria took place on October 22 and 23, 2026, at FH JOANNEUM in Kapfenberg. Approximately 150 participants from academia, business, and industry gathered to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

Experts addressed the practical implementation of AI in companies, focusing on modern language models, the future of software development, and digital system security. Discussions also covered legal and ethical implications, specifically regarding responsibility when AI systems make decisions. Willibald Ehrenhöfer, provincial councillor for economy and science, emphasized the need for honest and transparent engagement with the technology to balance opportunities and risks.

Students from FH JOANNEUM presented their own research, aiming to apply AI to concrete challenges. The summit was held as part of the RADIUS research project, which investigates the use of generative AI and large language models in IT security and software development. The event was supported by Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark and KNAPP AG.
