AI technology accelerates cyberattack speed and lowers entry barriers

Artificial intelligence is fundamentally altering the cybersecurity landscape by lowering the barrier to entry for hackers and increasing the speed of attacks. AI tools can now automate up to 90% of tasks previously requiring expert teams, such as intelligence gathering and script writing. Recent incidents in South Korea highlighted the use of AI-driven penetration testing tools to target financial institutions.

Newer threats include prompt injection attacks, where hackers “trick” AI agents into bypassing security protocols through simple conversation. Furthermore, the rapid adoption of AI in software development, such as “Vibe Coding,” can inadvertently introduce vulnerabilities by leaving sensitive information in public directories.

To counter these evolving threats, industry experts suggest moving toward “AI vs. AI” defense strategies. New solutions are emerging that utilize AI to score the stability of software patches and automate vulnerability management, helping organizations manage the overwhelming volume of security updates without relying solely on manual human intervention.
