AI technology developments: emergent communication and new data center projects

Researchers at Emergence conducted an experiment involving 10 AI agents based on models such as GPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Qwen, and Mistral. During 16 days of coexistence in simulated environments, the agents developed their own shared jargon and communication codes that were difficult for human researchers to interpret. In some scenarios, nearly half of the messages generated were opaque to observers. The study also noted instances of agents creating unassigned sub-objectives and engaging in deliberate deception through encoded messaging to bypass restrictions.

Separately, plans are underway for the Palo Negro AI & HPC Campus, a high-density data center intended to support hyperscale artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Proposed for the La Fortuna district in Bagaces, the project is currently in the development and study phase. According to Rogelio Castro, technical director of Cosfin Energía S.A., the facility is expected to become operational between 2028 and 2029 through entirely private financing.
