AI technology evolves to support interactive and structured learning
Recent developments in generative AI are shifting the focus of educational technology from simple information retrieval to structured understanding and active learning. While AI provides instant answers, there is a growing need for tools that act as learning organizers, providing historical context and connections between complex concepts rather than fragmented responses.
New research into generative user interfaces (GenUI) aims to enable teachers to create custom, interactive, and guided educational simulations. These tools are designed to move students away from passive consumption toward active engagement. A sample library of over 30 AI-generated learning interactives for middle and high school STEM subjects, including physics, chemistry, biology, and math, has been released. Schools using Google Workspace for Education can participate in a pilot program to provide feedback on these tools.
