AI technology may trigger surge in short-lived crypto meme games
Kieran Warwick, co-founder of Illuvium, predicts that artificial intelligence will enable a wave of cheap, short-lived crypto “meme games” similar to the memecoin phenomenon. Warwick suggests that AI tools could reduce game development costs to approximately $1,000 and timelines to just a few days, potentially leading to as many as 100,000 game launches within a single year.
These games are expected to target speculative traders looking for financial rewards, much like the memecoin market which saw a peak market capitalization of $150.6 billion in December 2024 before dropping nearly 69% by November 2025. Warwick noted that many of these titles will likely be designed to exist for only a few days, allowing creators to turn a profit through initial token or item sales before the games lose relevance.
While cheaper development might revive interest in the Web3 gaming sector, Warwick warned of significant risks for participants, stating that while some may see gains, others will be “absolutely rinsed.” This trend contrasts with long-term development models, such as Illuvium’s flagship project, which has been in development for over six years.
