AI technology shifts toward edge computing and security amid rising deepfake threats

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is presenting both significant societal threats and new opportunities for business productivity. In Japan, experts are addressing the rising danger of deepfakes, which have been exploited in elections across more than 50 countries. Since 2025, damages from impersonation fraud related to generative AI have reached $401 million, affecting sectors including politics, economy, and education.

In the corporate sector, HP is shifting its focus from simple AI usage to achieving tangible business results through hybrid AI models. At the HP Future of Work AI Conference 2026, leadership emphasized that while generative AI is now common, the next phase involves moving from cloud-based systems to edge and hybrid AI. This transition aims to address rising costs in token economics, security concerns regarding sensitive data, and the need for better management of AI agents. HP predicts that by 2030, approximately half of all AI inference processing will be handled at the edge.
