However, in the field of accident repair, vehicle engineering specialist Laird has cautioned against total reliance on AI for damage assessment. Research from Project X-Ray, which analyzed over 250,000 assessments, suggests that while AI is efficient at visual tasks like monitoring panel damage, it often fails to identify structural or mechanical issues that are not visible in external photographs. Experts suggest a hybrid model where AI processes large datasets while human engineering judgment is used to assess damage that cameras cannot detect, such as internal suspension or structural failures.
