Users frequently post requests in specialized groups, seeking to see a departed relative smile, hug them, or simply improve the quality of old photographs to facilitate a sense of connection.

Experts suggest this phenomenon relates to the psychological concept of ‘continuing bonds,’ where grieving individuals maintain an internal relationship with the deceased. Anja Franczak, founder of the Institute of a Good Death, notes that AI may serve as a new tool for maintaining these memory-based connections.
