AI technology used to assist in skin cancer detection

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being utilized in dermatology to assist in the detection of skin lesions. Automated image analysis systems can identify suspicious characteristics in skin images, potentially flagging areas that require closer medical inspection.

The Syndicat National des Dermatologues-Vénéréologues (SNDV) has expressed support for using AI in cutaneous imaging, provided it serves strictly as a tool to assist in spotting lesions rather than replacing medical expertise. The SNDV emphasizes that while an algorithm may signal a potential issue, the final responsibility for analysis and medical decision-making must remain with a dermatologist.

Additionally, the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) notes that professional digital technologies, including AI-based systems, can be used as aids for screening, diagnosis, or medical decision-making, though they do not replace the necessity of professional validation.
