Mayo Clinic AI model detects early pancreatic cancer

A study by Mayo Clinic introduced the REDMOM (Radiomics‑based Early Detection Model) artificial‑intelligence system, which can spot microscopic changes in abdominal CT scans that signal pancreatic cancer years before traditional diagnosis. In tests on nearly 2,000 scans, the model identified early‑stage disease in images previously read as normal, offering a potential tool to improve survival rates for a cancer that today has a five‑year survival below 15 %.

In Mexico, researchers at the Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genómica (Inmegen) are developing a multimodal AI platform that merges genomic and imaging data to better stratify breast‑cancer patients and guide personalized treatment. The project aims to create more accurate predictors of survival and recurrence, though clinical validation is ongoing.

The Hospital General de Xoco in Mexico City opened a new emergency‑room suite equipped with a surgical robot, a mobile CT scanner, an AI‑assisted microscope and digital X‑ray, allowing real‑time imaging and minimally invasive procedures without moving patients. The facility also includes a teaching space that streams operations to trainees.

Separately, a separate AI model has been reported to predict cognitive decline in multiple‑sclerosis patients by analyzing MRI scans and neuro‑psychological test data, promising earlier therapeutic interventions.
