AI tools developed to improve early dementia detection

Researchers involved in the EU-funded AI-Mind project are developing artificial intelligence tools to identify individuals at high risk of dementia earlier. Currently, many patients receive diagnoses only after significant brain changes have occurred, often missing the window for effective early intervention and support.

Led by researchers such as Vebjørn Andersson and neurologist Ira Haraldsen at Oslo University Hospital, the project aims to detect cognitive decline before clinical symptoms manifest. This early identification is intended to allow for better monitoring, treatment, and support, potentially extending the period patients live without significant symptoms. As Europe's population ages, the project seeks to combine medical expertise with advanced AI models to improve risk prediction and healthcare planning.
