AI tools drive increased workloads and workplace anxiety in Asia

Recent trends highlight the complex psychological and professional impact of artificial intelligence on the modern workforce. In China, the AItab browser extension has introduced digital spiritual rituals, such as electronic wooden fish and cyber fortune-telling, to provide an emotional outlet for employees facing workplace stress and high pressure.

Simultaneously, a CNA survey of over 3,600 young professionals across seven Asian markets reveals that AI-driven efficiency is often leading to increased workloads rather than reduced hours. In China and India, 85% and 82% of AI users reported being required to complete more work within the same timeframe, respectively. In Singapore, 69% reported similar increases, while 61% saw no change in salary despite using AI tools. The findings suggest that while AI saves time on routine tasks, management frequently reallocates that time to additional responsibilities, potentially leading to burnout and a reliance on tools over critical thinking.
