AI tools used by Trump and Pentagon in Venezuela operation

Reports indicate that artificial intelligence played a role in the decision-making processes surrounding the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Weeks before the January 3 military operation, Donald Trump reportedly consulted Elon Musk’s AI, Grok, to gauge how Venezuelans might react to Maduro’s detention. The AI suggested that many citizens would likely welcome the fall of the leader, a prediction that appeared to align with subsequent reports of street celebrations following the capture.

During the actual military operation, the Pentagon utilized Claude, an AI model developed by Anthropic, integrated through Palantir Technologies systems. The U.S. military strike involved bombardments in Venezuela that reportedly resulted in approximately 100 deaths. Following the mission, Anthropic expressed concerns regarding the Pentagon’s use of its tools, leading the Trump administration to consider terminating their cooperation.

Additionally, Pentagon AI lead Cameron Stanley described Grok as a critical asset for national security, noting its role in increasing operational efficiency during conflicts, including the war with Iran, by enabling rapid targeting capabilities.
