AI transformation could force 11 million US workers to change jobs

The United States labor market is entering a period of profound transformation driven by the rise of artificial intelligence. According to a report by McKinsey, while the economy is expected to create more jobs than it eliminates through automation, the scale of required professional shifts is significant.

Approximately 11 million American workers, representing about 7% of the workforce, may need to change occupations within the next decade. This transition is estimated to involve roughly 770,000 workers changing professions annually, a rate comparable to the shifts seen during the pandemic era.

While new roles are expected to offer higher average compensation, they will demand different and more advanced skill sets. The challenge lies in the ability of workers to adapt to these technological changes, which are expected to gradually impact nearly every sector of the economy.
