AI usage grows among consumers despite low trust levels
Recent research highlights a growing but cautious consumer relationship with artificial intelligence across different sectors. In the mobile application market, a report by Yodel Mobile by NP Digital found that while 10% of consumers use AI for app discovery, only 44% trust its recommendations. This stands in stark contrast to the 84% trust level reported for recommendations from friends and family.
In the legal sector, a survey by Uswitch indicates that 39% of adults would consider using AI instead of a solicitor for legal questions. Primary drivers for this shift include speed, 24/7 availability, and lower costs. However, the study noted that nearly a quarter of users who sought general AI advice received incorrect guidance that led to real-world problems, such as financial losses or health scares.
While AI is increasingly used to explain complex terminology or provide quick overviews, experts warn that it lacks the ability of a professional to ask critical follow-up questions and tailor advice to specific individual circumstances.
