AI usage trends highlight privacy risks and data shortages

A study by DuckDuckGo reveals that many users utilize AI chatbots as a 'digital confessional,' sharing secrets they withhold from friends, family, or medical professionals. Approximately one-third of all AI users have shared information with a chatbot that they intentionally kept hidden from others, a figure that rises to 56 percent among AI enthusiasts. Notably, 43 percent of parents with children at home reported sharing details with AI that they have never told another living person.

The report highlights a significant knowledge gap regarding privacy; over half of respondents are unaware that most chatbots store conversations to train future models. Users may also be unaware that conversations can be reviewed by human employees, monitored by employers on corporate accounts, or disclosed to authorities via legal warrants.

In Denmark, the government's strategic ambitions for artificial intelligence in the public sector face challenges due to a lack of necessary data. Experts suggest that without a new approach to data collection, the national strategy for AI implementation may struggle to achieve its goals.
