Ai Weiwei retrospective exhibition to open in Brussels
A major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei is set to open in Brussels from September 19 to November 14. Presented by the Patrick Derom Gallery, the show will be held across two venues in the Sablon district.
The exhibition features more than 50 works spanning over three decades of the artist's career. The collection includes emblematic pieces from the 1990s, such as the photographic series ‘Study of Perspective’ and the ‘Han Dynasty Urn with Coca-Cola Logo’, alongside contemporary works like LEGO compositions and monumental installations such as ‘Snake Ceiling’.
Ai Weiwei’s work is noted for linking artistic practice with political engagement, cultural memory, and freedom of expression. His multidisciplinary approach utilizes sculpture, film, installation, and photography to address themes of human rights, oppression, and Chinese identity.
