AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami reshuffles party amid internal dissent

After the AIADMK’s defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, district‑level review meetings chaired by General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami focused on identifying loyalists and detractors rather than analysing the loss. Sources said the meetings will inform a forthcoming reshuffle, with Palaniswami expected to remove those perceived as opposed and appoint supporters before an executive committee meeting in August.

The party later announced that former ministers SP Velumani and P Thangamani will pay homage to freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai, a move presented as having Palaniswami’s consent. Both veterans have previously declined new organisational responsibilities and remain at odds with the leadership, while former minister CVe Shanmugam continues to criticize Palaniswami, heading a dissident group of AIADMK MLAs.
