AIADMK faces internal rift during 55th foundation day celebrations
The AIADMK is facing internal division as it marks its 55th foundation day. While General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami celebrated the milestone at the party headquarters in Chennai, urging unity to reclaim power in Tamil Nadu, several rebel leaders boycotted the event. Former ministers S. P. Velumani, C. V. Shanmugam, and P. Thangamani held separate celebrations in their respective districts, signaling continued friction within the party.
Loyalists have responded sharply to the dissent. ‘Agri’ S. Krishnamurthy criticized the rebels, accusing them of attempting to weaken the organization due to personal frustrations over ministerial positions. He further questioned the commitment of those who had previously voted against the party whip.
Amidst this internal struggle, speculation is growing regarding the potential political entry of actor Dhanush. Reports suggest that Palaniswami is exploring the possibility of recruiting the actor to attract younger voters and counter the influence of rival actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay. AIADMK leader K. T. Rajendra Balaji stated the party would welcome Dhanush ‘with open arms’ if he chooses to join. While Dhanush has not officially announced political plans, the recent transformation of his fan club into a welfare organization has fueled these rumors.
