Aiba Hiromi & Hikaru Matsuyama Lead Underwater Cleanup on TV Show

The two‑hour special of the TV Asahi variety program "Aiba Hiromi no Komarimashou?" aired on July 23, featuring Aiba Hiroki (known as Hikaru Matsuyama) and Hiromi tackling the problem of abandoned fishing gear in the waters of Miura City, Kanagawa. The episode focuses on "ghost gear" – nets and ropes left behind by retiring fishermen that threaten marine pollution and navigation. Hiromi, a licensed scuba diver, dives to assess the condition of a massive fish‑cage covered in seaweed and shells, while Aiba supports from the boat, remarking, "…sea, we have to go in!" The duo attempts a painstaking underwater cleaning, using snorkelling and manual removal, before hauling the cage ashore for high‑pressure washing with a giant crane. Actress Shuri joins as a surprise guest, adding a prank segment and helping with the final cleanup. The broadcast highlighted the environmental impact of abandoned gear and the physical challenges faced by the hosts during their first underwater operation.
