Italy water supply issues reported across multiple regions

Various regions across Italy are experiencing significant water supply disruptions due to aging infrastructure, maintenance work, and technical failures.

In Sciacca, residents and condominium administrators have reported severe shortages, particularly in the Perriera district, during the mid-August holiday period. AICA, the water utility, attributed the issues to an aging network and a well-site failure, announcing maintenance works for the 2026/2027 biennium and noting that structural solutions involve multi-million euro projects funded by the Region and the PNRR.

In Grotte, AICA has pledged to monitor water network reconstruction works following reports of technical issues. Similarly, in Reggio Calabria, residents of Villa San Giuseppe have faced low water pressure and insufficient service, prompting calls for immediate intervention by Sorical.

Other localized disruptions include scheduled maintenance by Abbanoa in Sassari, which is expected to cause pressure drops and temporary suspensions in several neighborhoods, and urgent repairs at the Codigoro Community House, which required the temporary transfer of remains to a different morgue to ensure uninterrupted service during network maintenance.
