Aica ordered to pay Siciliacque 11 million euros in water fees

The Court of Palermo has ordered Aica to pay Siciliacque more than 11.5 million euros due to unpaid water fees. This ruling concludes a long-standing legal dispute that has coincided with water emergencies in the Agrigento province.

Siciliacque had originally sought over 12.4 million euros plus interest. Aica contested the amount, arguing that the ‘Favara di Burgio’ aqueduct was incorrectly included in the infrastructure assigned to Siciliacque. While the judge did not accept this objection in the current phase, the court did exclude default interest accrued since September 2021 because the reporting system had not been formally agreed upon by both parties.

After accounting for a payment of over 743,000 euros made by Aica during the proceedings, the final amount due was set at approximately 11.5 million euros. The order is immediately enforceable and includes the reimbursement of legal costs.
