Aichi Governor criticizes Thai Techball delegation over meal complaints

Aichi Prefecture Governor Hideaki Omura has sparked controversy following remarks regarding the Thai Techball delegation during the Nagoya Asian Games. The dispute arose after the Thai head coach posted videos on social media criticizing the insufficient quantity and variety of meals provided to the athletes.

Governor Omura responded by stating that he felt the individuals involved “did not want to come” and questioned whether their social media posts were merely intended to “earn views.” He clarified that because Techball was an added event with a limited preparation period, the organizing committee had stipulated that the sports federation itself would be responsible for venue setup, accommodation, operations, and expenses.

Omura emphasized that the committee was not responsible for the management of meals near the venue. However, his blunt comments have drawn criticism both in Japan and Thailand, with some observers suggesting his remarks lacked the spirit of hospitality and were unbefitting of a high-ranking official.
