Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games open with Blue Impulse aerial display

The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games officially commenced on September 19. To mark the opening day, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's aerobatic demonstration team, Blue Impulse, performed a flight display over Aichi Prefecture.

The aerial show took place during the morning, featuring approximately 20 minutes of formation flying and maneuvers, including heart shapes, over central Nagoya and various landmarks such as Hisaya Odori Park. The flight path extended across several venues and cities, including Kariya, Okazaki, and Toyohashi, to build momentum for the games and the upcoming Asian Para Games.

As the opening ceremony at Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium approached in the evening, large crowds gathered, and security was tightened due to the attendance of international dignitaries. Local authorities implemented traffic restrictions around the venue to manage the influx of spectators.
