Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games organizers address housing and transport issues
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games organizing committee held a press conference in Nagoya to address mounting complaints regarding athlete accommodations and transportation logistics.
Athletes have reported significant issues with temporary container-style housing, including beds that are too short for tall players—such as basketball players exceeding two meters—and instances of water leakage. The committee noted that the decision to use container housing and hotels instead of a dedicated athletes' village was driven by rising construction and labor costs.
Additionally, the games have faced severe transportation disruptions. Shuttle buses have been reported as delayed, lost, or sent to incorrect locations, in some cases causing delays to sporting events like women's volleyball. The committee admitted to a lack of preparation regarding the diverse needs and schedules of different national delegations, though they maintained that no competitions have been canceled due to these delays. They attributed some confusion to delegations requesting last-minute schedule changes after the official deadline.
