Aida Gomez to perform ‘Carmen’ in Istanbul

Spanish dancer Aida Gomez will perform her production of ‘Carmen’ at the Atatürk Kültür Merkezi in Istanbul on October 4 as part of the Istanbul Culture Route Festival.

Choreographed by Gomez, the performance adapts Georges Bizet’s opera through the lens of flamenco and Spanish dance. The production features music by Bizet combined with compositions by flamenco guitarist and composer Jose Antonio Rodriguez. The performance explores themes of passion, jealousy, and freedom through the story of Carmen.

Gomez, who was awarded the National Dance Award by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2004, has a distinguished career that includes serving as the youngest artistic director in the history of the Ballet Nacional de España. She has performed at major international venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
