Aidan O'Connell announces the death of his father

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell announced the death of his father, Jim O’Connell, via social media. O’Connell shared a tribute describing his father as a “gift” who “impacted countless lives.”

The announcement follows O’Connell’s absence from the Raiders’ Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, which he missed due to personal matters. The quarterback expressed that his family is “heartbroken” and is seeking comfort through faith during their period of grief.

Teammates and former colleagues, including Maxx Crosby and Derek Carr, have offered messages of support. This loss follows previous family hardships for O’Connell, including the loss of his brother in 2022 and his mother’s involvement in a severe car accident in 2020.
