Aiden Markram undecided on Lucknow Super Giants captaincy for next IPL season

South African batter Aiden Markram said he has not given much thought to leading Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming Indian Premier League season, leaving the decision to the franchise. "I've got no idea," he told Cricinfo, adding that the team can choose whoever they think is best.

Rishabh Pant stepped down as LSG captain in May after the side finished at the bottom of the points table and was later traded to Delhi Capitals for Kuldeep Yadav. LSG have not yet named a new captain, with Markram emerging as a strong candidate because of his experience captaining South Africa in T20 cricket and his association with the RPSG Group’s other franchises.

Markram joined LSG for Rs 2 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL, scoring 445 runs. He was retained for the 2026 season, where he made 231 runs in 12 matches.
