AI‑driven workplace changes cause insomnia for Dutch employees

A survey of 1,575 workers in the Netherlands found that 11 % report insomnia linked to anxiety about artificial‑intelligence adoption, and a similar share fear their jobs may become obsolete. Rapid AI uptake—rising from 40 % to 77 % of workplaces between mid‑2024 and May 2024—has left many feeling unsupported; 41 % say their employers do not provide adequate guidance during the transition. Psychologist Gijs Coppens warned that reliance on AI for emotional comfort can worsen anxiety for those with existing disorders.

In a separate global study of more than 2,000 HR leaders and employees, International Workplace Group projected that AI, neuro‑technology implants, and immersive virtual‑reality meeting rooms will reshape offices by 2050. About 71‑73 % expect AI and automation to redefine most job functions and accelerate work speed, while 68‑72 % foresee a shift away from the traditional 9‑to‑5 schedule toward flexible, multi‑site arrangements.
