AIFA airport to operate without public funds in 2027
The Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will no longer receive public funds according to the 2027 Expenditure Budget Project (PPEF) presented by the Ministry of Finance. The military-civilian terminal, located at the Santa Lucía Air Base, has reached a break-even point and is now operating with commercial profits.
Projections from the Ministry of Finance suggest the airport will generate more than 2.2 billion pesos in income, with an initial resource availability exceeding 3.6 billion pesos for the next fiscal year. This financial stability is attributed to the transfer of cargo flights from the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and steady passenger traffic. Additionally, the Felipe Ángeles Train, which connects Mexico City to Zumpango, has helped optimize travel times for users.
Despite generating daily profits of approximately 3.2 million pesos and reporting net gains of 581 million pesos, the airport faces expansion challenges. Specifically, it has encountered limitations in adding flights to and from the United States due to restrictions imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump regarding cross-border market penetration.
