Aigüestortes National Park access closed after rockslide

A rock and earth landslide at the Prat de Pierró parking lot has forced the closure of an access point to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park in the municipality of Espot. The landslide, caused by heavy storms in the Pallars Sobirà region, rendered the area impracticable and affected several parked vehicles.

National park officials reported that while no personal injuries occurred, the landslide damaged the parking area and affected the access track to the Josep Maria Blanch refuge at 2,350 meters. Cleaning efforts are being conducted by park workers, firefighters, and local authorities to clear debris and allow vehicle owners to retrieve their cars.

Authorities recommend that visitors avoid using private vehicles to access the area, suggesting instead the use of public transport via taxis from Espot or traveling on foot via the GR-11 itinerary. Some parts of the parking lot may reopen as early as Monday, depending on weather conditions.
