Aigüestortes National Park launches electric bus to ease summer traffic

The Vall de Boí area and the Aigüestortes National Park in Spain introduced an electric bus service on Tuesday to transport visitors to the Cavallers reservoir. The pilot, funded with €350,000 from Next Generation EU funds, uses a 34‑seat bus imported from China and operates from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until 23 August, with three trips in the morning and three in the afternoon.

The service aims to de‑congest the Caldes road, which traditionally sees heavy private‑car traffic in July and August, and to provide a more sustainable access route for the park’s 600,000 annual visitors, about 20 % of whom travel to the Cavallers zone. Reservations are required; the fare is €3 per adult, with reduced rates for children, seniors and people with disabilities.

Park director Lluís Florit and Vall de Boí mayor Sònia Bruguera said the pilot will be evaluated for demand, operational performance and possible adjustments before deciding on a permanent schedule.
