AIIB Annual Meeting in Doha focuses on infrastructure and investment

The 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is being held in Doha, Qatar, from September 28-29, 2026. Under the theme ‘Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation,’ the event gathers global policymakers, financial leaders, and development experts to discuss sustainable and resilient infrastructure investment.

During the meeting, Nepal’s Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle met with AIIB President Zou Jiayi to request increased investment for Nepal’s infrastructure and post-disaster reconstruction. Wagle specifically sought support for green energy, digital infrastructure, and cross-border electricity transmission. He also requested expedited studies for existing projects, including an express road and electricity distribution improvements.

President Zou expressed condolences regarding losses from the Bhotekoshi flood and indicated that the AIIB could provide grant assistance through a special fund for project preparation. Such grants may facilitate more concessional interest rates for loans to Nepal. The meeting includes participation from various international ministers and heads of development banks.
